Famous German weapon of the Second World War, nicknamed the "Schmeisser" by Allied soldiers, was produced in 1,100,000 copies between 1940 and 1945. The MP40 became the first gun in the world to feature a folding steel stock. He thus met the demands of the Wehrmacht for the coming Blitzkrieg. This weapon made an impression with its innovative and unconventional design for the time. The folding stock made the weapon very handy. Bakelite, economical, durable and easier to work with than wood, was used for the handguard and the grip plates, itself made of pressed steel. The weight was well distributed between the handle and the magazine well thus contributing to the overall balance of the weapon.

The MP40 is equipped with a lug under the barrel as well as a thin anti-rebound strip (in aluminum then in bakelite and finally in stamped sheet metal) intended to rest on the edge of the vehicle body to stabilize the shot, this made it possible to prevent the recoil of the weapon from returning the muzzle of the submachine gun inside the vehicle during firing. This Maschinenpistole was initially intended for crews of armored vehicles, but its maneuverability soon made it the weapon of all armed formations, even U-Boot crews.
